How Coaching Works

ADD Coaching Group sessions accomplish the following:

Benefit with ADD.  The ADD Coaching Group believes that the only thing wrong with ADD/ADHD is not knowing you have it. Once diagnosed properly, and with the aid of prescribed medication, sufficient exercise, and the assistance of an expert ADD coach, people with ADD have an enormous advantage. We call it ADDvantage ADHD.

Identifies your strengths and coaches you to maximize them. What you pay attention to grows.  Your strengths are what make you a unique and creative human being. Your strengths provide the catalyst for immediate progress and success.

Spends very little time on your weaknesses, which we refer to as CHALLENGES. We don't let what you can't do get in the way of what you can accomplish. We help you to discover your strengths and build on them while coaching you to manage your weaknesses.

Always attempts to think positively, expressed in positive language. One of the few areas we can control in our lives is how we think. Everything begins with a thought. Thoughts affect how we feel about ourselves, how our bodies feel, and how we operate socially in the world. Thoughts control our belief systems. Thoughts carry neurological weight. In essence, thoughts affect all our actions.  Pessimistic thoughts create passivity and procrastination. Positive thoughts create action, progress and productivity.

Identifies your key learning and processing modalities. Processing modalities are the keys to understanding how we learn and process information. The major modalities are: Verbal, Kinesthetic, Cerebral, Tactile, Auditory and Visual. Which modality do you use to sustain focus?  Which one do you use to comprehend what you are paying attention to?

Identifies memory challenges. Are your retrieval patterns of key information challenged in the LONG-TERM, SHORT-TERM working memory? How do these retrieval challenges get in the way of progress, and what SYSTEMS can be created, to improve your ability to access information?

Identifies attentional challenges you are experiencing at work, home, socially, etc. To help you to recognize when focusing is a challenge for you, we design systems specific to your needs. Do you have difficulty focusing on a teacher, speaker, friend, supervisor, written material, TV show? Do you have difficulty shifting attention from one task to another? Do you HYPERFOCUS on a desirable task and then miss important appointments because you couldn't shift out of the attentional trance?

Identifies endeavors you are PASSIONATE about. Where do your passions lie?  What turns you on? What would you love to be doing right now? What are your VALUES? Have you identified the KEY NEEDS in your life? Needs will drive you in a divergent direction if you don't identify them and attempt to meet them. Do you have BOUNDARIES around your needs? What are your STANDARDS of EXCELLENCE?

Creates a proactive agenda with specific, measurable, attainable and realistic goals. Your goals should be achievable according to a daily or weekly plan for which you are ready to hold yourself ACCOUNTABLE. Failing to plan is planning to fail.
