My Coaching Philosophy
"The only thing wrong with ADD is
not knowing you have it! The rest is logistics!!!"
When I was diagnosed with ADD, I became very upset. Everything made sense about the past but how was I going to move ahead in life with “ADD”? I felt at once relieved to know that I was not crazy and at the same time, I felt ashamed and very, very sad.
I started to think about everything that was wrong; about the mistakes that had cost me in business, family, relationships . . . in all areas of my life. I think I cried for a week. This grieving process is very important and I wouldn’t trade it.
I then began to think about what I had accomplished in spite of the ADD. I write music. I’ve sung with The Temptations. I love to cook. I’ve run successful businesses in areas of television commercials, entertainment, education, importing Italian furniture, architecture, psychoanalytic psychotherapy and alike.
After researching online, I came across a comparison chart for people with ADD. On the attributes side were creative, enthusiastic, energetic and intuitive just to name a few. I said, “THAT SOUNDS LIKE ME!!!!
After recognizing this in myself, I realized the issue was not the ADD but the fact I had no idea I had ADD nor did I know what it was nor what I could do about it now.
Though I heard all my life how I wasn’t working up to my potential or I was scattered or I kept repeating myself, I still got the job done better than OK. As a matter of fact I was told that I got the job done GREAT!
I realized I was not broken and I will tell you flat out . . . neither are you!
ADD doesn’t go away just as diabetes or being left handed won’t disappear but you deal with it. Why? Because you deserve to live a healthy life. Nor should you assume that all is going to work out because you now take medication or you are aware. The saying goes the pill doesn’t give you the skill. I’ve heard my clients tell me all the books they’ve read and the forums they’ve attended yet until they work with a qualified and certified coach does any significant change take place. They’ve come to realize the what they love to do and when you do what you love . . . the symptoms of ADD disappear. That is why I know you can Benefit with ADD!
I understand what it meant to discover my own ADD, to travel the journey from discovery, to grieving, to committing to educate myself and those around me. My vision and purpose is to coach others with ADD to live their dreams. Yes, you can!
You can learn to appreciate your ADD and the remarkable gift your unique brain wiring has been offering you. You can learn to Benefit with ADD!
